R-Value The R-value is a measure of conductivity. For windows, it is a measure of how much heat passes through the glass in relation to how thick the glass is. R-value is usually cited as an RSI (R-value System International) number.
Radiation Radiation is the emission of energy through waves or particles. In solar radiation, the energy from the sun's rays produces heat waves that provide warmth, which is either desirable or undesirable depending on the season. Considerable research and innovation in the building industry has developed windows that can control the amount of solar radiation that passes through. Different glazing surfaces reflect most of the damaging waves while allowing the light waves to pass through.
Rail A rail is a horizontal part of a window sash.
Reflectance Reflectance is the ratio of the energy (light, power, or heat) reflected from a surface compared to the total energy striking the surface.
Reflective Glass Reflective glass has been treated with a reflective substance or film. The reflective properties can be added into the glass itself or added to the formed glass to increase its reflective qualities. Reflective glass limits the amount of solar heat that passes through windows in the summer, reducing cooling costs.
