Mullion A mullion is the vertical rail in a window sash that runs between adjacent panes of glass. Historically, mullions were required because it was difficult to create large sheets of glass. Today, mullions are often ornamental and are either applied to the top of a single windowpane or sandwiched between two glass panes. False mullions are called muntins.
