Awning Window A window hinged at the top that allows it to swing outward from the top.
Balance A balance helps to counteract the weight of a window through a pulley system, and it makes opening and closing easier. Sash windows in particular contain two balances--one on either side, concealed in the frame. Sometimes a spring is used instead of a weight.
Bay Window The bay window comprises three windows. There is usually a larger central pane sided by two smaller ones generally set at 90oor 45o. Larger designs are available which comprise five panes arranged in a half octagonal shape.
Bead The bead is a strip of material, generally wood, with one molded edge placed flush against the inner part of a window frame. This helps to ensure a tight fit and reduce drafts and moisture ingress.
Blackbody A blackbody is a theoretical surface that absorbs all incident radiation, such as heat and light. It is called a blackbody because by absorbing all wavelengths of light, none is reflected so it appears black.
